Members of Unite the Union had indicated they were willing to stage industrial action
Printers at Envases on Trinity Park Industrial Estate had been expected to stage strike action after claims that staff were told to either accept new contracts or be dismissed. This is commonly referred to as fire and rehire was described as "bully boy" tactics by union officials.
Envases Liverpool was formerly part of the Huber Packaging Group. In February 2021 the Huber Packaging plants became part of Denmark-headquartered Envases Europe. According to Unite, new contracts put forward by the business would have required printing staff to work in the company’s production hall when required. Sharon Graham, Unite general secretary, said: “This is a really important victory.
Under the deal the current pay agreement will be implemented in full and talks between the company and Unite will begin early next year under the auspices of the conciliation service Acas to find a long-term solution to the workplace issues. Strike action had been expected over four days from June 17-21 and again on June 24-25.
