The saguaro cactus was known as a 'sentinel' for the Tortolita Preserve and has been memorialized on Marana's government website.

“Strong-Arm,” a saguaro that stood in the Tortolita Preserve in Marana near Tucson, fell on Aug. 4 after living for around 150 to 200 years, the town said on its website.

In the memorial post on Marana’s government website, Jason Grodman, Natural Resources Supervisor with the Marana Parks and Recreation Department, called it a “saguaro motel” to its many animal residents. Marana's recreation superintendent Bob Stinson said his predecessor had given the saguaro its name since it was one of the largest cacti in the area and the trail went right by it.

Grodman said in the video that the trunk of the saguaro, which remains upright, will likely stand for the next few years, while the arms will likely decompose of the course of about five years.
