The mutant massacre of the 2023 Hellfire Gala had an unexpected domino effect of reintroducing the Bagra-ghul, a demon from Wolverine and Ghost Rider's past returning to finish off the remaining mutants. Wolverine has teamed up with Ghost Rider to hunt this demon down, but instead he ends up as its new host.

Wolverine Becomes the Hellverine One of the most volatile mutants of the X-Men has become a hunter of mutants at a time when the species is on the brink of extinction. Orchis' Mutant Massacre means there are now only a handful of mutants on Earth, and Logan knows where to find them. The issue ends with Hellverine hopping on his motorcycle and riding off to fulfill his mission, his adamantium claws now blazing with hellfire.
As if the impact of Orchis did not make it dangerous enough to be a mutant, the Hellverine is giving the mutant population something else to fear. Staring down someone like Wolverine as an opposing force is already a scary sight, but a mind-controlled Wolverine on a mission to kill mutants whilst hosting Ghost Rider's abilities is even worse. Fans knew they were getting a Wolverine/Ghost Rider hybrid, but few suspected he'd be on the side of evil.
In the past, Ghost Rider's demonic might has made him the equal of the Hulk, so hopefully the true Spirit of Vengeance will be able to stop the Hellverine before he does too much damage. However, Wolverine was a force to be reckoned with even before his Ghost Rider upgrade, making the Hellverine one of the few beings who might be able to face off with the Spirit of Vengeance in a fair fight.
