According to the American Journal of Medicine, which publishes doctoral research studies nationwide, 70 women on average are shot and killed per month in the United States. Over 90 percent of those deaths are committed by an intimate partner or family member.
One domestic violence survivor, Joelle McQuay, said she is certain she would have been dead if she had stayed in her abusive marriage. Salari said that although domestic violence is an epidemic nationwide, when it comes to homicidal cases, America is number one. Furthermore, Salari said that most female homicides tend to occur within the home, with the vast majority—over 90 percent—being committed at the hands of an intimate partner or family member.
