Terrifying but pretty.
Messier 106 in detail as captured by the James Webb Space Telescope The James Webb Telescope continues to provide us with stunning images of our universe, this time capturing a black hole swallowing up nearby cosmic bodies. The black hole lies at the centre of the featured spiral galaxy NGC 4258, or Messier 106, which is around 23 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Canes Venatici. It is pictured gobbling up any material that surrounds it.
The orange regions represent warmer dust and the stronger red hues represent colder dust. The teal, green and yellow tones near the centre of the image depict varying gas distributions throughout the region. Facts about Black holes The closest black hole to us is around 1,500 light years away and is called Gaia BH1 Black holes spin, with the fastest known as GRS 1915+105, which clocks in at over 1,000 rotations per second. The lightest-known black hole is around 3.8 times the Sun’s mass.
