What does a man like Logan Roy leave behind? Doodles and chaos
In television, death is an adrenalin shot. The remaining characters are left to sort through the emotional fall-out, lines are redrawn, new personalities emerge. And it’s hard to recall an on-screen death as seismic as Logan Roy’s, not least because of Brian Cox’s towering screen presence. The juiciest element, aside from the funeral outfits, which will presumably pop up soon, is the reading of the will.
Frank has found Logan’s will, which features some pencilled-in revisions. We’re kept in the dark about the contents of the will as the board members go through the motions about what to do – could the document somehow find itself flushed away in the loo? We find out at the same time as the kids, that Logan wanted Kendall CEO. Those revisions include an ambiguous cross-through or underlining of Kendall’s name, and Greg’s name, followed by a question mark.
But Kendall, taking a leaf out of the Logan Roy playbook, orders Hugo to do it without letting Roman or Karolina know. Hugo resists, but the new CEO leverages the information about his daughter’s insider training, proving that maybe, just maybe, Logan shouldn’t have crossed out Kendall’s name. In screwing Logan over, Kendall’s proved he’s more like his father than anyone thought possible.Tom makes it very clear – to the board, to Roman, to Kendall – that he is “here to serve”.
