'I just hope the person comes forward, and people learn from this that as awful as it is, just stop,' Kathleen McGuire said. 'We know it's an accident, and things happen. Sometimes you can't avoid it.'
Police in Cohasset, Massachusetts are searching for a driver who hit and killed a dog Monday then took off.
Kathleen McGuire only had her 10-month-old puppy, Karhu, for a few days, but she had already fallen in love. She drove all the way to Virginia to pick him up, adopting him from South Carolina. "He was just such a cuddle-bug," she said."I think he didn't realize what it was like to have love and attention, and then he just soaked it up."Get New England news, weather forecasts and entertainment stories to your inbox.The dog was hit near the intersection of Pond Street and Clay Spring Road just before 8 a.m., police said. Kids were filing into the high school nearby at the time.
"I feel bad for all the kids going to school that had to witness it. And I am so thankful for all the people that stopped and helped," McGuire said."They're phenomenal in this town."
