The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Keegan Michael-Key, who voices Toad in the upcoming film, accidentally becomes Mario in a funny Instagram video.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Keegan-Michael Key accidentally took over Chris Pratt's role as Mario in a funny Instagram video. Key stars in the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie as Toad, Peach's servant and the character who will help Mario learn about the Mushroom Kingdom and his mission to rescue Luigi from Bowser. A social media filter lets users see which Mario character they are, and said character appears at random on their foreheads.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an Instagram post from Pratt, Key sees which Mario character he is, only to be crowned Mario, who Pratt is voicing in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Pratt gets jokingly angry at his co-star for stealing his role as Mario, while Key is pleasantly surprised. The post is accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek caption reading, "Not cool bro," with a mushroom emoji beside it.
Why Chris Pratt's Mario Voice Continues To Be Controversial Pratt's post with Key appears to be not only a way to promote The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but also reflects how Pratt's casting as Mario continues to be controversial. Unlike the Mario games, Pratt's version of the beloved plumber doesn't carry his signature high-pitched voice or thick Italian accent.
However, Pratt previously revealed that he can do an accurate Mario accent, but it didn't make it into the film because it wouldn't fit with how the movie was trying to present itself. While it would have been accurate to the games to hear an accurate Mario voice throughout the movie, it may have taken away from the tone the film is trying to go for.It would have been interesting to see how The Super Mario Bros. Movie would play out if Pratt did utilize his accurate Mario voice.
