Will he have an impact on the DCU?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Despite only being the villain for The CW’s sole remaining DC show, Superman & Lois’ Lex Luthor may be a character of even greater significance than originally thought. After several episodes of setup in the show’s third season, Superman & Lois finally unveiled its take on the Man of Steel’s greatest enemy.
Reimagined as a criminal mastermind framed for the murder of DC’s Boss Moxie, Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor has a much more personal reason for hating Superman & Lois’ characters than most incarnations of the villain. Since Lois’ reporting played a role in Lex’s false imprisonment, he blames her – and by extension, Superman – for the 17 years he spent behind bars.
Superman & Lois's Lex Luthor Could Show The DCU How To Introduce Lex Luthor Regardless of how long Superman’s conflict with Lex plays out the small screen, the introduction of Michael Cudlitz’s character could be of great importance to the future of DC’s live-action properties. After all, bringing in a new Lex Luthor is sure to be a priority for the DC Universe, especially with Superman: Legacy on the way in 2025.
Making Lex Luthor work was a challenge for the DCEU, and one that failed to pay off in a satisfying way. Jesse Eisenburg’s Lex in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was meant to be a fresh new take on the iconic villain, but instead of breathing new life into the character, he was actually considered to be too different from traditional portrayals of Lex Luthor.
The DCU's Lex Luthor Needs To Differ From The Classic Character Although it’s certainly in Superman: Legacy’s best interests to steer clear of comparisons to Eisenburg’s Lex Luthor in the DCEU, that’s not to say that the DC Universe needs to deliver a perfect recreation of the classic character from the comics. This story has been done so many times before that something different does feel appropriate, as long as the character it uses is still recognizable as Lex Luthor.
