Superman is one of DC's greatest heroes, but even he has a dark side. One Superman persona proves he could have become Metropolis' biggest criminal.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Superman is nearly universally beloved, with really only the villains of Earth disliking him. But early in his career Superman could've taken a different path, and instead of becoming a beloved superhero, he was almost Metropolis' biggest supervillain: the Demolisher.

Superman is one of DC's biggest symbols of hope; no matter what problem someone is facing, Superman will be there to help. Be it putting out a fire or saving a cat from a tree, Superman is always there to lend a helping hand, and that's one of the reasons he's considered such a hero. While other characters like Batman are often hunted by the police, Superman is allowed to act in Metropolis in whatever way he wants since he's earned the entire city's trust.

After the citizens of Metropolis overwhelmingly reject the Demolisher in favor of Superman's methods, instead of being pleased by this outcome, Superman goes on a bit of a rampage. Being able to let loose and treat criminals how he truly wants proves to be addicting to the Man of Steel, and he's unable to give up the Demolisher persona.

Superman Resists the Demolisher Persona There have been many stories about Superman becoming evil, but almost all of those stories take place in either alternate futures or alternate realities. This story featuring the Demolisher is one of the first looks readers get of the Superman from DC's primary universe nearly giving into his dark side. Superman's internal conflict is understandable: having to be nice and cheery all the time can get exhausting.
