UPDATE: The suspect was shot by police, and no officers were injured. Denver Police Division Chief Ron Thomas said that five or six officers responded to the incident, and only one round was fired.
Authorities were called to the Globeville Townhouses in the 300 block of East 51st Avenue at about 11:50 a.m. where officers forced their way inside. A child was present but not injured.
The stabbing victim was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where she is in serious but stable condition, said Denver Police Division Chief Ron Thomas. The suspect was shot by police, and no officers were injured. Thomas said that five or six officers responded to the incident, and only one round was fired.Lawrence Scott, who is a neighbor of the suspect, has lived in the complex for more than two years. Scott was at work when he received a call from his wife, who he described as hysteric at that point.
“It’s really scary because it’s usually really peaceful here,” Scott said, describing the incident as a “traumatic experience that happened right next door.” Kimberly Thompson lives on the same street as the suspect and heard the suspect’s wife screaming. She “sounded very desperate for her life,” Thompson said.
