BREAKING: A suspect is dead and a Lawrence Police Officer was injured in a shooting Tuesday night, according to police.
LAWRENCE — A suspect is dead and a Lawrence Police Officer was injured in a shooting Tuesday night, according to police.
Officers were serving a warrant in the 40 block of Burrwood and surrounded a home. The warrant was related to the suspects possibly shooting at homes in the neighborhood. Police say there were two people inside. One person left the home and"engaged" with the officer, who was shot in the leg. The officer has non-life threatening injuries.Lawrence Police Chief Gary Woodruff tells WRTV the second suspect was also shot but has non life threatening injuries.
Lawrence Police Commander Tracey Cantrell said long rifles were used by the suspects and there were"numerous rounds."Both IMPD and Lawrence officers responded to the initial scene.Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured officer as well as their family & their @Lawrence_Police family.
