WALNUT CREEK — A 20-year-old Vallejo man has been charged in connection with a 2022 smash and grab in a Walnut Creek mall where three suspects made off with $92,285 worth of Rolex watches.
Last week, 19-year-old Jamonni Simon pleaded no contest to second-degree burglary in connection with the same incident. He was sentenced to 180 days on house arrest and two years probation, records show. Rolex watches have always been a target for thieves, but supply chain issues in 2022 led to a shortage that increased their value, according to. As a result, police say they’ve seen an increase in Rolex robberies and thefts that has been further exacerbated by media coverage of such incidents.
