Dominique Fishback says there was “a lot of screaming” after she landed her very first Emmy nomination.
Glover and Nabers were also nominated, for outstanding writing for a limited series or movie.
Getting recognized for her work as Dre is sweet, especially considering that it wasn’t the role Fishback was initially supposed to play on the series. “Originally, you know, I got offered of the role of Marissa,” Fishback says. “And in my spirit, I said, ‘No, I want to play Dre. I have to play Dre.’ And Donald said, ‘If that’s the role you want, that’s the role you get.’”
Fishback decided ahead of time that her friends would be with her when the Emmy nominees were announced, but wasn’t entirely sure whether she was going to watch the presentation live. “A part of me knew, but a part of me was like, Maybe I just won’t watch.
