Former Irish League striker Vincent Sweeney believes David Jeffrey's Linfield squad would dominate the current Premiership
Former Irish League striker Vincent Sweeney says he has nothing but respect for the Linfield squad that dominated the Irish League under David Jeffrey.
"They were a phenomenal team, and they are all still friends. Whatever David Jeffrey built there was sensational. That's why they were so successful. "For the powerhouses they had, I don't think I have seen a better team. And they proved it by beating Shelbourne to lift the Setanta Cup." "I would love to have played for that team, and that manager. I think it would have lifted me to a new level. I always gave my all, no matter what shirt I wore.Sweeney added: "I look at that Linfield team and what they achieved, and in my opinion it meant more to those players winning all the trophies they did, than maybe it does to Larne now, considering the investment that has been made there.
Sweeney's career was disrupted by two knee injuries. He says his periods of rehab educated him on the importance of training and physical wellbeing. "I got back and played with Crusaders, and won the league with Derry City, which was phenomenal achievement considering how broken I was.
