German audio brand has just launched its first pair of wireless headphones. The Solitaire T are as good in wireless mode as they are in passive mode. The inclusion of ANC and HQ mode makes them a compelling proposition.
Only when T+A was satisfied that it had made the best passive headphones it could, did it add the Bluetooth and ANC functions to match the sound in passive mode. In other words, the Solitaire T are about as good a pair of headphones as you can get with Bluetooth and ANC.
So, that’s the tech background to these new headphones; now I want to turn to the physical characteristics of the Solitaire T. These are incredibly comfortable headphones to wear. They feel relatively light and the anti-allergenic, synthetic leather ear cushions feel very soft. They also form an effective passive acoustic seal and feel comfortable on long flights without making the ears feel sweaty or uncomfortable. The headband is also amply upholstered to reduce pressure on the wearer’s head.
The Solitaire T can also be switched into active mode via Bluetooth or with a digital wired connection to a smartphone or computer with a USB-C cable. The DAC inside the Solitaire T is connected to the Bluetooth chip and converts the digital signal into an analog one. An Esstech ES9218 Sabre DAC converts digital streams into high-quality sound when used in HQ mode, preserving the nuance and character of the music, just as it would in analog mode.
with a 4.4mm Pentaconn connector for use with high-end DAPs. T+A also supplied a hard travel case to keep the headphones safe. The design and function of the Solitaire T headphones are more BMW than Daimler, but the controls are all logically laid out. On the left-hand ear cup, there’s a power switch with a four-segment green LED showing the state of the headphone battery. On the right-hand ear cup, a sliding switch switches between Off . On and Bluetooth mode.
