T.C. Broadnax blew chance to take Dallas permitting problem seriously | Opinion
Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax speaks during a June 12 City Council meeting. Ahead of the council's first vote on the budget, Broadnax has proposed additional savings. If we wondered why Dallas was having so much trouble fixing its malfunctioning permitting and inspections departments, now we know. The city manager doesn’t seem to think it’s that big a problem.

Broadnax also brushed aside a calculation from Linda McMahon, CEO of the Real Estate Council, showing that the permitting problem has amounted to $9 million in lost revenue for the city. Some of the problems Mundinger and others have identified are often complex and require time to address. Staffing is a struggle, as it is for many organizations now. The software problem was a failure, though one that isn’t unique to City Hall.
