New laws takeaways need to abide by coming into play from October 1

Takeaways across the UK are being forced to abide by new laws to stop the use of single-use plastics. Food outlets will no longer be able to offer diners everyday fast food items such as plastic cutlery and polystyrene cups.

The new laws come into play on October 1 as ministers hope the move will help better protect the environment. Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Thérèse Coffey is among the MP launching the changes to protect the environment, reports Birmingham Live. She previously said: "I am determined to drive forward action to tackle this issue head on. We've already taken major steps in recent years - but we know there is more to do, and we have again listened to the public's calls. This new ban will have a huge impact to stop the pollution of billions of pieces of plastics and help to protect the natural environment for future generations.
