The Galaxy won four preseason games, but things are far from perfect as the regular season opener approaches next Sunday.
CARSON — The Galaxy wrapped up its preseason schedule Saturday with a 2-2 draw against D.C. United in front of 9,534 Saturday. Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez scored both goals for the Galaxy, who posted a 4-1-2 record during the preseason.
DC. United scored both of its goals off of set pieces, something that didn’t please Galaxy coach Greg Vanney. Here are some takeaways from the preseason.Last season was one of constant influx for the Galaxy. Once Vanney was hired, the club started an on-the-fly makeover. This season, with the majority of the pieces already in camp, things have gone a bit smoother.
“The guys have been great all preseason,” Vanney said. “The guys have their legs under them, we’ve dealt with different types of opponents …the guys have seen a variety of teams that do things different ways. All in all, I think we’re in a good place. Very pleased with the preseason, I think guys are confident, I think they’re clear and like I’ve said many times, I think we’re light years ahead of where we were at the start of last year.
Center back Derrick Williams didn’t play in any of the preseason games. He is beginning the return-to-play process. Victor Vazquez wasn’t available Saturday and Vanney listed him as questionable. Defender Sega Coulilbaly left Saturday’s game after falling on his right shoulder.
