Fiona Beal admitted to killing her partner mid-trial and burying his body in their garden.
A teacher has been jailed for life for murdering her partner and burying him in the back garden of their home.
She denied murdering her 42-year-old boyfriend but dramatically changed her mind and pleaded guilty to the charge mid-way through her murder trial. The court heard Mr Billingham's body was found dumped inside a makeshift grave after police uncovered where he was left by reading the killer's sinister journals.
A post-mortem took place a day after the body was discovered on March 19, 2022, which found: "The conclusion is that he was killed as a result of a single stab wound to the right hand side of the neck transecting the right jugular vein, and incising the oesophagus and trachea. This would have required moderate force, severe force cannot be excluded."
The prosecution said the narrative that Mr Billingham had run off with another woman was "completely false". But jurors heard that Mr Billingham appeared to have cheated on Beal previously. She returned to work "fully discharging her considerable responsibilities as a teacher to Year 6 pupils" and receiving a "sympathetic response" from people who had heard about her break-up.
