A Metro transit police vehicle outside the Brookland Metro station after the fatal shooting of a teenager on a subway platform. A teenager was shot and killed Thursday afternoon on a platform at the Brookland Metro station in Northeast D.C., according to two D.C. officials familiar with the incident.
The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known, but D.C. police spokesman Tom Lynch said several shots were fired.they were looking for a male with a black jacket, light blue jeans and square gray backpack. They published a picture of him on an escalator with a hood over his head and mask over his mouth.
The incident occurred just before 4 p.m., soon after schools in the area let out for the day. Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority that trains were temporarily bypassing the station.
There were armed, trained security officers — known as special police officers — at the Brookland station on Thursday afternoon when the shooting occurred, said Sherri Ly, a spokeswoman for the transit system. Metro has been using special police officers to augment officers with the Metro police force.
