Man Utd were beaten once again by Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
You know things are getting bad when a Manchester United defeat to Brighton can't even be described as an upset.
United, of course, might have more talented players but that's thanks to their significantly larger budget which could see them get away with their shortcomings. It's not been a good start to the season for Ten Hag, continuing from the slump his team began to suffer towards the end of his first campaign.
Of course, everyone is spending money. The Premier League is the most lucrative league on the planet and its participants are laden with cash from TV rights deals. But to even remotely suggest Brighton are spending anywhere close to United is flat-out ridiculous. If you add the two sides' benches, Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial, Facundo Pellistri, Altay Bayindir and Aaron Wan-Bissaka take that figure well past the half-a-billion mark. Even Brighton's fairly expensive bench of about £115m means the entire side only cost just over a fifth of United's.
