Sharna Brook Burgin, 23, was killed in the horror Mercedes crash
A passenger in a speeding car said 'I'm going to die' just moments before a young mum was killed in a horror crash.
Prosecutor Ben Campbell said Roberts was driving Sharna and three other passengers into Sheffield after offering them a lift. Footage was played to the court as Mr Campbell told how Roberts reassured his passengers he had 'not had a drink' when they suggested getting a taxi. One witness recalled the crash happening but did not know how it had happened. Mr Campbell said: "A woman was driving along in the same direction as Mr Roberts but in front of him. She noted in her rear view mirror some lights appeared to be spinning.
She died in hospital. The other female passenger suffered tissue injuries to her head as well as cuts and grazes to her shoulder and right hip. It was said in his police interview on February 27 last year, Roberts said he had 'gone to overtake a car on his left and kept on accelerating and thought he had gone too far to his right and swayed to the other side'.
"She describes feeling robbed of a future with her daughter. She will have no more time with her daughter. "That involves Leon Roberts who I think has encapsulated that in the letter he has written by himself. He struggles to come to terms with what happened. The events that he still has recollection of."
