Tesla ice cream Cybertruck anyone? Tesla shared a video on its Instagram page of employees handing out ice cream
During Tesla’s Q1 2022 conference call, Elon Musk shared some details about how the Cybertruck will be made in terms of parts. This was an answer to a question“In terms of number of parts, how would Cybertruck compare with a traditional pickup truck in terms of number of parts?”
Both Elon Musk and Lars Moravy, Tesla’s Vice President of vehicle engineering, answered. Elon Musk said that he wasn’t sure if they’ve done a comparison of Cybertruck parts with regular truck parts, and Lars Moravy said that it depended on what one would count as a part. Not counting cells, Lars Moravy touched upon the simplicity of the Cybertruck’s structure.
“The simplicity of our structure is significant versus a traditional pickup truck or any other vehicle. Like, as we’ve talked about, the Giga castings, we save hundreds of parts there.”is one casting or one part. Lars Morovy added: “And even so with a Cybertruck and the doors, for example, we have an exoskeleton design where the door is really thick, and it takes all the side load from impact, so we don’t have the door reinforcements.
“So, to your point, I haven’t counted them, because I don’t often look back at old technologies to decide how well I’m doing. I check that once in a while, but in general, architecture is always moving to reduce complexity, reduce parts, and reduce parts count. I would say ignoring the battery cells, we are probably 20 to 30% less.”
