The Houston Texans are quietly building an elite OL in front of C.J. Stroud. WeAreTexans
Acquired in a deal with the rebuilding Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March, Mason was previously scheduled to enter the final year of his contract in 2023. A newly-signed extension keeps Mason under contract with the Texans through the 2026 campaign. Mason is expected to start at right guard, where he represents an upgrade on last year’s starterCaserio has spent a large portion of the offseason ensuring Stroud won’t be debuting behind a leaky offensive line.
Caserio isn’t solely relying on veterans to protect Stroud though. The No. 15 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, sophomore blockerwill start at left guard for a second consecutive season. Green saw his fair share of typical first-year struggles in 2022, but the former Texas A&M standout is expected to enjoy a second-year jump in performance.
Caserio’s investments around Stroud continued to take center stage throughout the 2023 NFL Draft. The Texans utilized their only second-round selection on Penn State interior offensive linemen. Scruggs is expected to start at center, making him Houston’s lone rookie starter up front.
