Separated by 15 years and the Gulf of Mexico, No. 24 Texas A&M football came full circle on Saturday night with its top 25 matchup with No. 13 Miami, one that was expected to carry much more weight nationally via a full house at Kyle Field, prior to the biggest upset of the five-season Jimbo Fisher era.
Appalachian State of the Sun Belt Conference steamrolled into Kyle Field and defeated the Aggies 17-14 on Sept. 13, a week before what was supposed to be A&M’s “tough” game of the nonconference schedule: Miami. Instead, A&M is banking on four consecutive top 10 recruiting classes – a record for the Aggies in the online rankings era of the past two decades – eventually paying off as Fisher adjusts to the latest setbacks. A&M’s league schedule in even years like this one is typically more difficult, because it means a trip to Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium.
