A Giles Middle School student was charged with assault causing bodily injury charge, a Class A misdemeanor, for allegedly stabbing her classmate eight times with a pencil.
Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said part of their investigation is trying to determine the catalyst for the incident.
“I’m not sure if it was bullying or if something else is going on because we will learn all of the information,” Sheriff Trochesset said. “Everything is on the table for why it would have escalated to this point.”A spokesperson for Texas City ISD said a 13-year-old student reported to administrators and a deputy she was assaulted.
“A Giles Middle School student reported to administrators and campus law enforcement that she had been stabbed in the arm with a pencil by another student earlier in the day. Administrators checked the student and did determine that she had multiple marks,” the statement said.“The safety of our students remains our utmost priority,” the statement read.
An hour after sending its initial statement to KPRC 2′s Rilwan Balogun, the district spokesperson sent another statement, saying, “Upon further findings, we are hearing that stabbed is a strong word and jabbed more accurately describes the situation.” The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson said the case will move forward in juvenile justice court.“The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that occurred Tuesday, October 24 at Sarah Giles Middle School in Texas City.
