One day after President Joe Biden’s decision to exit the race, Texas’ DNC delegates were solidly behind Harris, the state party said in a news release after the call.“Her historic tenure as the first Black and South Asian woman to hold the office of the Vice President has been marked by an unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and progress for all Americans,” Gilberto Hinojosa, Texas Democratic Party and national delegation chair, said in the release.
Monday night’s vote was nonbinding, but the vote of confidence reflected how Harris appears on track for the nomination.and prominent Democratic leaders such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., soon after Biden dropped his bid for a second term and endorsed Harris to take his place atop the ticket.
After Monday night’s straw poll of Texans, Dallas delegate Jeff Strater said fundraising for Harris has exceeded expectations and people are excited to get behind the campaign.“Everyone seems enthusiastic,” Strater said in a direct message. “People contacting me to get involved and contribute. Dallas County Democratic Party has been swamped with calls and emails and walk ins.”Delegate Mark Greene of Fort Worth said in an email that Monday night’s call was “high energy” and upbeat.
“I felt 100% better about the party’s prospects at sunset this evening than I did at sunrise yesterday,” Greene said., Washington correspondent.
