Texas will allow restaurants, stores, and other businesses to expand their capacity starting next week, Governor Greg Abbott announced Thursday following a decline in new coronavirus cases, but it remains one of the nation’s hardest-hit states.
This move to expand capacity does not apply to areas of the state where hospitalization rates are still fairly high, including the border city of Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley. Bars are still not allowed to reopen in any part of Texas, though Abbott said state officials are working with bar owners to figure out a path forward.
