Texas lawmakers who probed Uvalde shooting won’t share testimony with Texas Rangers
Alfred Garza III, father of 10-year-old shooting victim Amerie Jo Garza, center, attends a press conference July 17 held by the Texas House committee investigating the massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. Garza said he was kicked out of a private meeting held for families right before the press conference because his name wasn’t on the list.
Texas Rangers and the FBI interviewed Arredondo the day after the May 24 shooting. He told those investigators that he, believing the shooter was “contained” and that the occupants of the spaces he held were already dead. Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw has said Arredondo declined to cooperate and meet with Rangers again for further questioning in the criminal investigation.
“It would be a good idea if they were allowed to compare those interviews, you know?” said one source familiar with the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly about it. “DPS shared its stuff with the committee.”Matt Crow, media liaison for the panel and communications director for its chair, Rep. Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, initially told the Express-News this week that no prosecutor or criminal investigator had requested the interviews from the committee.
