Texas Legislature should not blame the Chinese for Communist Party behavior | Opinion

” laws, and a 2020 revised national defense law. All of these assert the party’s expectation that all Chinese support the government’s espionage efforts.

From broader economic to individual health concerns, Chinese people — nurses, accountants, scientists, doctors, restaurant owners, first responders and many, many more — make Texas resilient, caring, dynamic, stronger and smarter. Furthermore, profiling “Chinese” based on ethnicity makes it easier for the party to hide agents in the rest of our population.

It would also burden state agencies who would be charged with enforcing the law. It would give those agencies a one-time shot to tag Chinese government-sponsored purchases. This creates at least two problems. Second, creating a single choke point of approving sales narrows the time that the party needs to hide its intentions and, worse, shrinks the target group of officials it needs to potentially influence with bribes.
