After Texas did its part to reach the NCAA Round of 32 Saturday by, Texas A&M failed to complete the eagerly anticipated reunion late Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.
With A&M waiting for a possible second-round meeting in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, Northern Iowa’s Paul Jesperson banked in a shot from halfcourt to give the Panthers a 75-72 victory over Texas in Shaka Smart’s first season in Austin. “It is a quick turn around and we’re getting ready for an unbelievable opponent who has had a great year, so we’ve got to do it again,” Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry said. “We got to trust our system, how we play and what we do, and we’ve got to prepare the same exact way, learn from film, watch film and then figure out a game plan and go execute it again.
“I don’t think anybody on the team is any type of selfish, anybody worried about getting off, anybody worried about just themselves. Everybody focuses on the team and how much we can win and I think that helps everybody else. It’s just preparation.”
