University leadership has been silent since issuing a pair of statements Monday, the second announcing Beard’s indefinite suspension without pay and applying the interim tag to associate head coach Rodney Terry. A school source told the Express-News Beard is being “given some space” right now while the early stages of the legal process unfold.
Terry and the team he’s temporarily in charge of have all been coached on what to say and what not to say. So they’ll either skate around the Beard-related queries or offer a “no comment” of sorts with the case currently pending in the 427th district court. It will go on this way until, at some point, athletic director Chris Del Conte and/or University president Jay Hartzell can provide some clarity.
