Residents of Eton Wick in Berkshire claim that they regularly see dead fish floating along the stream by their back gardens
that sewage discharges flowing from the facility provide weeds in the stream with “nutrients and sediments,” causing them to grow at significant rates.
Stephen Pitcher, 53, said the sewage “feeds the weeds, making them to grow like Jack and the Beanstalk.”that the rising level of the water, which often has a “bluey-green” colour, has damaged his garden along with the wall separating his garden from the stream.“It is collapsing my wall,” he said. “The wall has fallen away and the bricks are coming off.Mr Pitcher said that he regularly sees “dead fish float by,” along with “things you shouldn’t mention that flow from the sewage works”.
Despite the importance of clearing out the stream, Ms Regazzacci said that members of the EWWG group feel that they can no longer go into the stream “because it is so heavily polluted.”This concern is shared by Mr Pitcher, who said that he is “not prepared to go into the water” because he has “seen what’s in there.”
: “Storm discharges are closely linked to rainfall and our region experienced above average rainfall for most of 2023.
