. The index includes 100 of the largest U.S. and international companies . While the fund is not specifically designed to track growth, its heavy weighting in the technology sector results in a large-cap growth fund.
By focusing on index ETFs, one popular growth fund didn’t make our list—Ark Innovation ETF . While ARKK had the highest 5-year return of any fund we considered, it likely wouldn’t have made our list even if we had included actively managed ETFs. The fund’s large investments in companies that lose money is, in our opinion, an unsustainable approach to investing.
Growth does come at a cost. As noted above, most of the funds on our list have P/E ratios above 30. ARKK, which didn’t make our list, weighs in with a P/E ratio of 123. One approach to growth investing is to seek out growing companies at reasonable prices . One fund in our list, SPGP, takes this approach.
