Amazon Studios executive Vernon Sanders teases more TheBoys spinoff shows may be coming after the Supe College spinoff is released next year.
Head of global television at Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders, teases The Boys may get more spinoffs following the upcoming Supe college series. Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic , The Boys was created by showrunner Eric Kripke alongside Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The series follows a group of dysfunctional, non-powered vigilantes who team up to bring justice to abusive superheroes and the conglomerate that enables them, Vought International.
The Boys' overwhelming success has led to Amazon ordering two spinoff series. The first, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, is an animated anthology series sporadically set in the continuity of both the comic and flagship series, which premiered earlier this year. The second is an untitled live-action spinoff Supe college series focusing on the G-Men, a parody of the X-Men following hormonal characters as they compete for Vought contracts"saving" cities across the country.
“There are ideas beyond the shows that we have. We want to pace ourselves. The launch of the show this season so far has really blown us away, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you heard about more but for the time being, we are focused on this next show and making sure that it lives up to everything it needs to be, and so far, we are on track.”
Executive producers and long-time writing partners, Rogen and Goldberg, have said they're always discussing The Boys spinoff ideas. So, it comes as no surprise that Amazon intends to capitalize on The Boys' ever-growing popularity, the universe, and mythology. As HBO Max, Disney+, and Netflix continue to expand their comic book/fantasy universes, it's only natural Amazon would want to compete by doing the same with Invincible or, of course, The Boys.
As a satirical take on the superhero genre and popular culture, The Boys began by making a mockery of the Justice League via The Seven. Season 3 of the series introduces the superhero team, Payback, which is led by a Captain America parody in Solider Boy. As evident by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and The DC Extended Universe, there's no shortage of superheroes for the Vought Cinematic Universe to deconstruction on screens big and small.
