Celtic tend to come to life on matchday two and they could do with that good omen striking again on Tuesday night.
The opening night curse appeared to strike Celtic yet again in the Netherlands, but the narrative flips on its head when Lazio come to town on Tuesday night.
Matchday two, though? That's a different story. Over the years, Celtic have a formidable record of recovering from slow starts on the big stage. They have no wins in 12 opening night attempts, yet they've won most of their second games, tasting victory six times out of 11. In their first two cracks at the Champions League group stage under Martin O'Neill, they lost to Juventus and Bayern Munich, but both times they pulled it back to win their second game.
Even in more recent Champions League campaigns that haven't gone to plan, the best nights have tended to come in the second round of fixtures. Who can forget that 3-3 draw with Man City in 2016, or the 3-0 thumping of Anderlecht that provided the only points from the 2017/18 campaign. Even last season, when the Hoops bottomed out on two points, their second game away to Shakhtar provided some hope as they battled to a 1-1 draw in Ukraine.
The Serie A giants are notoriously bad travellers in Europe after managing just a single win away from Italy in their last five years of three different European competitions in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.
