As the runaway success of The Traitors has made plain, watching people lie to each other makes for excellent TV
In a glam hotel on the Caribbean island of Grenada, 10 pairs of contestants were each given a suitcase. Most contained blank notes , one held the grand prize of £250,000 and one had an “early checkout card” that could send them home . The aim of the game was simple – in hostin the sun — progresses over the next two weeks, the contestants will swap cases in a series of dramatic “nightcaps” in the hotel’s “Lady Luck Bar”, ceremonies not unlike‘ roundtables.
Meanwhile, mother and son team Jo-Anne and Will had the cash – and had managed to stay under the radar of their competitors . So far, so deliciously dramatic. Next up was the challenge. Usually my heart sinks whenever contestants are wrenched from the drama and subjected to a Go-Ape-style assault course or whatever, but this treasure hunt did provide some entertainment. Mostly from beautician Chloe, who valiantly misinterpreted almost every clue as they raced around the island trying to take selfies in specific places: “Stump? Botanical gardens!” .
She and her business partner Louie came last and had to swap their case first, while married couple Claire and Dan who won the challenge had the luxury of the final choice.was as much about good luck as skill. When Chloe and Louie swapped their case of blank notes for Jo-Anne and Will’s jackpot, they inadvertently struck gold. Mother and son plastered on nonchalant smiles to hand over their fortune without giving the game away.
As the ceremony continued, so did the machinations – the money was passed back and forth before eventually returning to Jo-Anne and Will, while Chloe and Louie were eventually stuck with the early checkout card and sent home.has made plain, watching people lie to each other makes for excellent TV. Whatever that says about the public, it’s a true as ever inWhat’s more, with seven episodes left, it’s literally all to play for.
