Among other features, students can use Campus’ directory to find and connect with other people at their school. For now, only kids at 30 institutions can access Campus, a purposefully diverse group that ranges from Brown to Florida International University. “I have three daughters ages 25, 23 and 21. And my youngest is still in college,” explains Dave Heger, an analyst who tracks Facebook for Edward Jones. “And she's like, ‘Oh, I never look at Facebook.’ I think it's kind of indicative: There's a certain cutoff and age where that group doesn't seem to view Facebook as relevant to them.”

Facebook is pained to come right out and admit this. In an announcement heralding Campus, Facebook executive Charmaine Hung acknowledged the app’s beginnings while tying Campus’ launch to the peculiar circumstances of 2020.
