When strange things began to happen, Dr Marie Gerval thought she knew where to turn for help. She was wrong
When NHS doctor Marie Gerval told police she believed she was in danger, the initial response was good.
Weeks earlier, Dr Gerval had lent James her car when he claimed his own vehicle was off the road. He later admitted he had fitted a tracker to the Renault Megane, using a local garage. Although James had previously served prison sentences for armed robbery and harassing his ex-wife, Dr Gerval says the case was "dragged out" and she had to push for the matter to be referred to the CPS. Meanwhile, she says CCTV showed her home was targeted by vandals and she was living in fear of what would happen next.
As the report had been made to Wigan Police, the accusation fell within Greater Manchester Police's area but she says there was no communication between GMP and Lancashire Police which would show she had already admitted stalking and harassing her, and this was his latest tactic. "I was even told I was overthinking the situation and to go and live at my other house in London until things settled down."
"Sgt Fraser led this this investigation but his recent conviction speaks for itself. He minimised, stalled and downplayed my case at every turn. I, like all members of the public, expect the police to act with professionalism and integrity at all times. However Dr Gerval's case has been referred to Professional Standards, who are looking into her complaint.
