Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara is made of diamonds and platinum, in 11 sections with interlaced ovals. The centerpiece is detachable, and the rest of the tiara was actually made specifically for that center brooch, which was given to the then-Princess Mary for her wedding to Prince George. Later, the bandeau and brooch were both given to Queen Elizabeth in 1953.
In the lead-up to the wedding, there wasn’t a clear consensus about which tiara Markle would wear. Could it be one of Princess Diana’s?In the end, the Duchess of Sussex opted for a tiara that, at least by modern standards, hasn’t seen much time in the public eye. Perhaps that was very much intentional: Now, much like Kate Middleton’s Cartier Halo, that tiara will become synonymous with the Duchess of Sussex herself.
