Houston region sees flat month for new auto sales, prices in April
Houston's vehicle sales in April were just about the same as last year. Prices were similar to last month, though still much higher year over year., the Houston-area's new vehicle sales last month were about the same as they were last year, though prices remain sky-high compared with the same period a year ago.
In April, just more than 6,000 cars and nearly 22,400 trucks were sold in the Houston area — collectively, about 1 percent more than in April 2022. The slim increase comes after March auto sales jumped by 69 percent for cars and 81 percent for trucksm year over year, according to data from the TexAuto Facts Report published by Houston-based InfoNation.Prices, on the other hand, remain mostly unchanged.
However, new vehicle prices still remain significantly higher than they were a year ago, when the average price of a new truck or SUV was $51,941 and the average cost of a new car was $40,941. Nationally, prices of used vehicles are down year over year but up significantly from five years ago. In the first quarter of 2023, the average price of a used vehicle was about 6 percent less than during the same period in 2022, but 44 percent more than in 2018,
