Hello When John Ahmed died in controversial circumstances in Strangeways in 2015, his dad John Snr began looking for answers. But, he says, his search was met with indifference.M.E.N. chief reporter Neal Keeling first met with John Snr just a few days later and has closely followed the case ever since.
It did, but not in the way the family expected. Coroner Nigel Meadows referred it back to GMP as he was concerned about discrepancies in evidence given at the inquest. The upshot was that police sent a file to the CPS after two prison officers were interviewed on suspicion of committing perjury at the inquest. But in 2020 the CPS decided to take no action.
The reason for the restraining procedures being used was because John Junior was being subjected to a drugs search. In an initial search officers had found tobacco and two pregabalin tablets but John Jnr was taken to an segregation unit as he was allegedly resisting the search - which his dad denies. It was while being restrained during the second search that he suffered a heart attack - no further drugs were found on him.
It was a shocking and complex case. But now, after four years and two lengthy trials, justice has finally been served. Grand but never snobby Look up. It’s a good rule of thumb for all aspects of life, but it’s particularly sound advice when exploring Manchester on foot. David lost track of how many customers turned up, but as well as earning around £500 for his venture, he was gifted a tortoise, which he’s named Lucky, and everything he needs to give it a loving home.
