Hafsah Penney is the niqābi influencer thrifting and skating her way through Instagram and Tik Tok.
Last year, Hafsah Penney of Edmonton, Canada, had her yearbook caption quite literally shared ’round the world. Penney, 20, wears a niqab—a veil worn by some Muslim women in public that only reveals the eyes—in her graduation photo with the caption: “Seriously disappointed with the lack of fashion I saw in high school. C’mon y’all, I wear a niqab and I’m STILL best dressed.”
“I didn’t know if people would get it, but I was like, ‘I don’t care. I’m just gonna go for it,’” says Penney. “It was a little flex.” Since she posted it on her Instagram account—which is dotted with images of layered niqab looks—last November, it has received more than 4,000 likes. In one instance, she wears a bandana with a yellow basketball jersey, holding a skateboard with the caption, “Living rent free in my head.
