Exhausted Tories say there is little enthusiam for the leadership race

Robert Jenrick, Mel Stride, James Cleverly, Tom Tugendhat and Priti Pratel are competing to become next Tory leader Tory MPs and grassroots Conservatives have cast doubt over whether the winner of the party’s leadership contest can lead them into the next election.that there “isn’t much enthusiam” among Conservative members for the race and that some Tories do not believe the next leader will remain in post for long.
A former Tory MP said that many Conservatives are “exhausted” following the general election campaign, which has contributed to a lack of enthusiasm for the race. The six candidates to succeed Mr Sunak will spend the next few weeks meeting members and campaigning across the country before Parliament returns from its summer recess in September.
The first hustings of the campaign is due to take place on 17 August in Stockton, organised by the Northern Conservatives group.
