3G will soon be phased out allowing a focus on 4G and 5G
Soon 3G will no longer be in use, with mobile networks shutting down the service in Glasgow and across the rest of the UK shortly.
The 3G mobile networks are gradually being switched off over the next couple of years, eventually switching it off for good at the end of 2024. But why is the use of 3G coming to an end and what does this mean for you? Here is what you need to know.What is 3G? The UK’s mobile services currently use four different ‘generations’ of mobile technology: 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G.
You may also be able to check your device settings to see if it has 4G available – try checking under ‘mobile networks’ or ‘mobile data’. What networks are stopping 3G? Each mobile provider has their own deadline and timescale for when they want to stop 3G.Vodafone The mobile network provider have said: "We’re starting our 3G switch off in Plymouth and Basingstoke on 28 February. We’ll be switching off 3G in all other areas by December 2023"
