The first series of Amazon's Lord of the Rings prequel isn't loved by all - but I'm hooked, was not universally loved. Some Tolkien hardliners berated it for taking liberties with the sacred texts. Depressingly, there were online cave-dwellers annoyed that not all members of the huge cast were white. And some people just thought it wasn’t very good.claiming it as an “unprecedented success, viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide”. I am one of the few who enjoyed it.
As with the first series, it’s visually sumptuous and benefits from being watched on the biggest screen available. Although the dwarfish couple Durin and Disa provide some welcome moments of levity, these episodes are darker in tone and more violent; there are several scenes that would not be out of place in a horror film.
