Industry insiders say social media has not only led to a greater desire to express individuality but is also influencing consumers to be more socially aware and leading them toward the inevitable conclusion that thrifted finds are more sustainable. Joan Costello, head of marketing for Depop in the U.S., says this combination of interest in self-expression and wanting to reduce waste is what drives the vintage community at Depop.
