If Steve Clarke goes gutsy tonight it could be another famous one on the road for the Tartan Army.
But Steve Clarke has a couple of big decisions to make before that Euro 2024 spot is firmly in our hands. Five wins from five have already made it an historic qualifying campaign and anything, anything in Seville will book our flights to Germany.
No Kieran Tierney is a blow and the big call facing Clarke as he's engineered his usual winning system around both him and Andy Robertson. We've learned from previous big qualifiers that with one of them out, the 3-4-3 he prefers doesn't always work, and given the standard of opposition, switching to a back four would be brave.
Predicted Scotland XI Let's go for it then. Tierney's absence could force Clarke into a curveball but a 4-2-3-1 worked so effectively against Ukraine the last time one of his left-backs were missing. This time out, that might be a bit ambitious, but a tweak to the system could provide extra cover with Callum McGregor dropping into the more deeper role he plays so effectively for Celtic.
A 4-3-3 allows Clarke to keep all his in-form players in the team while still using John McGinn in the 'wide 10' position he's nailed down in Tartan colours. The alternative here could be dropping Scott McTominay into defence and keeping the back five as is but he's our top scorer by a distance and basic common sense would tell you to keep him as far up the pitch as humanly possible while retaining his physical presence on the cover.
