'We have learned that the government cares more about the economy than people’s lives.' TeenVote2020
amid the pandemic, I’m deeply concerned about voter turnout, accessibility in getting to the polls, folks sharing information regarding mail-in ballots, etc. Our political paradigm will never be “the same” or “normal,” and honestly, it hasn't been for a very long time.very quickly last month, and I saw more people from my own state getting involved in protests than I ever have .
and still would not put a mask mandate or stay-at-home order in place. I just feel very afraid for everyone's safety.[The pandemic] has given me space and time to reflect on myself in ways that the pace and noise of my usual life would not have. I’m surprised by how much I’ve grown since March. I lost a graduation and senior spring, but I actually gained the realization that I didn’t need those things anyway.
I've grown a lot more confidence, grew in relationships, [found] more hobbies. And I had time to reflect on my high school years, friendships, and events in my life during senior year that I never took time to acknowledge before because I was too busy just trying to finish my senior year — so I'm thankful for that.My job's start date was pushed back to Labor Day because of the pandemic. All of my close friends experienced similar setbacks.
What lessons from the spring and summer of 2020 should we take forward? What do you think we’ve learned? The most valuable thing I had to learn during summer 2020 is that nothing is promised in life. I spent my entire 2019 school year planning the rest of my career, and in a matter of months, my perfect plan was gone. As a college student, primarily, we are taught to always be on our grind.... Truthfully, that idea is centered on capitalism.
The sense of entitlement was astonishing. It is troubling to me that there are people who are not taking this seriously. Especially in California, I see people get angry that they have to wear a mask or can't dine in. It's frustrating, because those are the people who are making this last longer. It has surprised me how much some people do not care about others, and also the lengths people will go to pretend nothing is happening.
